Getting Hyatt Diamond Challenge More Than Once

If you are not aware, you can get free Hyatt diamond status with a Hyatt diamond trial. Hyatt diamond status is Hyatt’s highest status tier, which provides benefits, such as free breakfast, free Regency Club/Grand Club access, and free room upgrades. After undergoing a Hyatt diamond challenge during our honeymoon at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, I can tell you that experiencing diamond status was fantastic and helped save a lot of money. The only problem is each Hyatt Gold Passport member is entitled to just one Hyatt diamond challenge in their lifetime . . . or is that really the case? After some recent emails with Hyatt, I think that under special circumstances, people can request a Hyatt diamond challenge more than once.     Hyatt Diamond Challenge My wife successfully registered for a Hyatt diamond trial before our Aruba trip where we planned to stay at the Hyatt Regency Aruba using points. Due to snowstorms and frigid temperatures across the Northeast, however, our flight was cancelled and two...

Honeymoon Trip Review: What to Do in Kauai

By now, you’ve probably read my reviews on the Grand Hyatt Kauai regarding the Deluxe Ocean View Room, the amenities at the resort, and the Grand Hyatt Kauai luau. If you haven’t read those posts and are interested in staying at one of the best resorts in Kauai for free, please go back and take a look. Last time, I also covered what to eat in Kauai so today, I’ll go over what to do in Kauai.   What to Do in Kauai Kauai is not that big an island, but there is so much to do that you won’t get bored. We spent a week in Kauai and still didn’t have enough time to get around to certain activities, such as zip-lining or surfing lessons. Kauai also offers a wide range of activities from adventurous ones to relaxing ones so plenty of variety for everyone.     The Main Point Kauai is the perfect Hawaiian island for a honeymoon, in my opinion, because it’s scenic and has so...

Honeymoon Trip Review: What to Eat in Kauai

By now, you’ve probably read my reviews on the Grand Hyatt Kauai regarding the Deluxe Ocean View Room, the amenities at the resort, and the Grand Hyatt Kauai luau. If you haven’t read those posts and are interested in staying at one of the best resorts in Kauai for free, please go back and take a look. In the next two posts, I’ll cover Kauai activities outside of the Grand Hyatt Kauai. Let’s start with what to eat in Kauai.   What to Eat in Kauai The Grand Hyatt Kauai is located on the South Shore of Kauai and because of that, most of the restaurants and shops we hit up the first few days were located near the south. We did spend one day at the famous North Shore, however, and enjoyed the food and sweets in that area as well. To be honest, Kauai is not that big so whichever part you do end up staying at won’t prevent you from easily driving to one of the...

Honeymoon Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Kauai Luau

Besides having awesome ocean view rooms and a seemingly endless selection of pools, the Grand Hyatt Kauai also boasts one of the best Hawaiian luaus in Kauai; many visitors who don’t stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai still come to the Grand Hyatt Kauai luau. A luau is a traditional Hawaiian party that includes music, dancing entertainment, and traditional Hawaiian food. While luaus may have a touristy feel to them, we thought it was worth going as we’ve never been to one before.   How You Can Do It The Grand Hyatt Kauai is a category 6 hotel on the Hyatt Gold Passport chart, so a standard room will cost 22,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points per night. If you don’t have Hyatt diamond status and want a better room that includes access to the Grand Club lounge for free breakfast and more, the cost will increase to 27,000 points per night. Last but not least, if you really want a suite, you can redeem 33,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points...

Honeymoon Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Kauai Part 2

While the Deluxe Ocean View Room we had at the Grand Hyatt Kauai was very nice, we didn’t spend a lot of time in the room. The Grand Hyatt Kauai is so big and offers so much to do, you won’t get bored exploring the hotel in a week’s time. Whether you spend your time relaxing in one of the many pools or playing golf at the Poipu Bay Golf Club, you can’t go wrong. Last but not least, if you really want a suite, you can redeem 33,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points per night. Recently, however, Hyatt just announced a change...

Honeymoon Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Kauai Deluxe Ocean View Room

Last time, I reviewed flying Hawaiian Airlines First Class between New York and Hawaii and described how you can do it too for free! Today, I’ll cover our stay in a Deluxe Ocean View Room at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, generally regarded as one of the best hotels in the Hyatt chain. The review will actually be a multiple part series since the hotel is so large and offers so much that I can’t possibly cover it in one post. The more information you have, the better you are able to plan your special stay here. Free Honeymoon Convertible Car Rental in Hawaii

Driving a convertible car rental in Hawaii is one of those must-dos that every visitor has on his list. And since I’ve never driven a convertible before, I really wanted to try one out on our honeymoon, especially since we were in Kauai where it’s super scenic and the weather is fantastic. Of course, everyone else visiting Hawaii also wants a convertible car rental, and increased demand drives prices up. By using a combination of Costco Travel and my Barclays Arrival credit card, however, I was able to rent a Chrysler 200 convertible for free!     Costco Travel Most people don’t know that Costco has a travel subsidiary, but I’ve been using it for a while now, and it’s recently become more popular among savvy travelers. Just remember that you do need a Costco Membership number to book a car on the site. Costco Travel consistently has some of the best prices for car rentals. Take New York City, for example, where car rentals are easily $100+ a...

Honeymoon Flight Review: Hawaiian Airlines First Class between New York and Hawaii

These upcoming posts about our honeymoon travels are long overdue but after some friends recently asked what the best way to get to Hawaii for free is, I thought I would finally write up a summary. Rather than go to the Maldives or Bora Bora, we really wanted to go to Hawaii since neither of us have been there. Kauai in particular looked amazing, so we decided to spend a week on the garden island for our honeymoon. From New York, only two airlines fly non-stop to Hawaii, and those two airlines are Hawaiian Airlines and United Airlines. Some would argue that Newark where the United Airlines flight departs from is technically not in New York so there really is only one airline that flies non-stop! The actual cost of our two Hawaiian Airlines First Class tickets was $11,626.58 (although we would obviously never pay that), but we were able to use 160,000 Hawaiian Airlines miles and pay $20 in taxes and fees instead!     How You Can...

Hawaii Destination Wedding Via Wedding Wings

Destination weddings are all the rage these days. Some popular choices include Hawaii or the Caribbean. You get married in a beautiful, exotic place and since it requires traveling, you only have to invite your closest friends and family. As a result, the wedding size is smaller, and you save quite a bit of money. On the negative side, your guests will be on the hook for airplane tickets and hotel costs, but they do get a mini vacation so it’s justified. Well, per this article that my fiancĂ©e found in Style Me Pretty, you and your guests can both win if you have a Hawaii destination wedding courtesy of a free program by Hawaiian Airlines called Wedding Wings. Couples get 10% off their airfare while their guests get 5% off. In addition, you can easily manage and track your guests through Wedding Wings. When 25 or more guests book their flights through your Wedding Wings invite, you become eligible for a free one-way first class upgrade based on...
