$60 of Free Groceries at Food Emporium, Pathmark, and other A&P Supermarkets

Currently, you can get at least $60 worth of free groceries from Food Emporium, Pathmark, and any of the A&P supermarkets via a special promotion the grocery chains are running. Until 12/12/13, you will get free grocery vouchers if you buy gift cards with the following value: Buy $500 in gift cards to get $60 (3 $20 coupons) in free groceries Buy $200 in gift cards to get $20 in free groceries Buy $100 in gift cards to get $10 in free groceries Buy $50 in gift cards to get $5 in free groceries These free grocery vouchers are good until 12/26/13 so you still have a couple of weeks to spend them, but I wouldn’t stock up on them either in hopes of using them for the next couple of months. Personally, I thought we could use about $120 worth of free groceries between now and the end of year. As a result, I bought 2 $500 Visa gift cards to get $120 in free groceries.   Free...

How to Get 45% Off Shopping at Kmart or Sears

Happy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving means Black Friday is just around the corner but to be honest, you can save just as much money shopping from the comfort of you home these days as camping in front of a store. For a limited time, you can get 45% off shopping at Kmart or Sears. Both stores have a large variety of items to choose from and are perfect choices for wedding registry shopping or holiday shopping.   Amex Sync Lands End The key to getting 45% off shopping at Kmart or Sears is the current Amex Sync Lands End deal (expires 12/31/13) where you will receive a $25 statement credit for spending $100 or more at Lands End. I’ve highlighted Amex Sync before and how easy it was to earn free money via the Amex Sync Best Buy deal by simply buying gift cards. In this case, you will buy a $100 Lands End gift card. In addition, you will first go through the ShopDiscover cash back portal to access the Lands...

Free Money from Amex Sync Best Buy Deal is Back

I can’t believe it, but the Amex Sync Best Buy deal is back until 12/31/13. Back in August, I posted about Amex Sync and the fantastic deals offered through the program. At the time, the Amex Sync Best Buy deal was offering a $25 statement credit for spending $250 or more at Best Buy. You could buy a $200 Visa gift card plus $50 in Amazon gift cards and get $25 back. In addition, you would earn a $5 Best Buy reward certificate for every $250 you spend at Best Buy. As a result, I bought the above combination with 10 different American Express credit cards and earned $250 ($25 * 10) and $50 in Best Buy reward certificates, which I used to redeem for a $50 Amazon gift card. Since the Amex Sync Best Buy deal just came back, I repeated that purchase today and bought 10 $200 Visa gift cards and 10 $50 Amazon gift cards. For step-by-step instructions on how to get the Amex Sync Best...

Following up on yesterday’s post about free money from Amex Sync and Best Buy, you can now maximize those Amazon gift cards you bought even more. Simply sign up for the recent Amazon Facebook app promotion to get $5 off your next $25 Amazon purchase.   Example Step 1: Sign up through the Amazon Facebook app link. Step 2: When the Facebook permission screen pops up, select “Only Me” from the dropdown so that your post remains private.   Step 3: You will be taken to your Amazon login screen and after you log in, you should get a confirmation that your next Amazon order of $25 or more will get $5 off.   Step 4 (optional): Click “Your Social Settings” under your Amazon account to disconnect your Facebook from Amazon thus turning off the Amazon Facebook app.   The Main Point $5 off $25 at Amazon is already 20% off but keep in mind you already got those Amazon gift cards at a discount if you did the Amex Sync Best Buy deal. If...

Free Money from Amex Sync and Best Buy

Amex Sync is a great program from American Express where you can sync your American Express credit card via Twitter, Facebook, of Foursquare to get deals and discounts at many popular retailers. My advice is to just use Twitter for Amex Sync, because you won’t always see all the deals when syncing with Facebook or Foursquare. Amex Sync is fantastic if you were going to shop at one of the retailers anyways. In the past, for example, I was able to get $25 off $75 at Ticketmaster and $25 off $100 at Costco. But the program is also great for retailers you don’t shop at, because some of the deals often mean free money for little to no work.   Amex Sync Best Buy Take for example, the recent Amex Sync Best Buy deal (expires 9/8/13) where you will receive a $25 statement credit for spending $250 or more at Best Buy. Until recently, I had not bought an item at Best Buy in 5+ years much less spend $250...

Cashing Out Wedding Gift Cards with Amazon Payments

Once again, thanks again to everyone who came to the wedding or sent their well wishes via email, Facebook, etc. For those who are new to the blog, I finally got married! For our wedding, we didn’t put up a wedding gift registry, because we didn’t want our guests to feel obligated to get us a gift. Nevertheless, everyone was so thoughtful and got us a wide variety of gifts anyway; the gifts ranged from handmade cards to household goods. Naturally, we also received quite a few Visa, MasterCard, and Amex gift cards, and you probably will receive some as well at your own wedding. While these gift cards are very versatile, they do have some disadvantages. For one, you could lose them before you use them. They also lack the purchase protection that almost all credit cards have. Last but not least, it’s hard to keep track of how much is on each card when you have a lot of gift cards, and you might not know how...

Plastic Jungle Is Closing

On Monday, I got an email that said Plastic Jungle is closing the website. Surprised by the news, I went to Plastic Jungle’s website, which now shows this: The team at Plastic Jungle would like to thank you for your participation in our gift card programs over the past seven years. Since 2006, Plastic Jungle has been a leader in providing you with great deals on gift cards in a secure marketplace. As our business has grown and evolved, we have seen that the greatest potential for Plastic Jungle’s long-term success is in working directly with our business partners. As a result, we will no longer be buying and selling gift cards at www.plasticjungle.com. This change is taking place effective May 13, 2013. In short, Plastic Jungle is closing the website and directing customers to their partner, CardCash. I guess this news was to be expected after the recent bad news that Top Cash Back lowered the cash back rate for Plastic Jungle. I’m not sure if Plastic Jungle...

Top Cash Back Lowers Cash Back Rate for Plastic Jungle

Sadly, Top Cash Back has decreased their cash back rate for buying discounted gift cards at Plastic Jungle. While the cash back rate use to be 2.5%, it’s now lowered to just 1%. Still 1% is better than nothing and remember, this saving is on top of the discount you are getting on the gift card. I guess it was too good a deal especially as more and more people started buying discounted gift cards. Still, with competition heating up in the gift card space and newcomers, such as Raise, trying to capture market share, I would have thought Plastic Jungle would try to retain current customers and attract new ones as well.     The Main Point Yes, cash back portals change their cash back rates all the time. That’s why I recommend using a cash back search engine, such as cashbackmonitor.com or cashbackholic.com, to see which cash back portal is currently offering the best rebate for the store you plan to shop at. It’s just surprising to...

Buying a Tuxedo or Suit from Macy’s at Great Prices

In yesterday’s post, I discussed why I thought shopping at Men’s Wearhouse for tuxedos was a bad idea. Their tuxedos are poor quality, uncomfortable, and will cost you the same amount of money as buying a brand new one! That is why I recommend buying a tuxedo instead of renting one. In addition, I recommend buying a tuxedo or suit from Macy’s for the following reasons:   1) Wide range of selection and sizes 2) Decent quality especially against competitors, such as JC Penney, Bergner’s, etc. 3) Constant “deals” and coupon codes that give you 15% to 25% off along with free shipping 4) Good cash back rate via a cash back portal and can easily find 11% discounted gift cards at Plastic Jungle 5) Large nationwide presence so tailoring needs and purchase returns are easy   Macy’s Tuxedos And Suits For lower-quality material (not 100% wool) just look at all these tuxedos and suits for $129.99, such as the Kenneth Cole Reaction Slim Fit Suit. For some of them, you...

Other Wedding Registry Links

In my previous post about shopping for wedding registry gifts, I advised you to never click on a couple’s registry link. Instead, I recommended you to go through a cash back portal and buy discounted gift cards. The savings will rapidly add up. In that post, however, I used Macy’s as an example, and a few of you asked me where the wedding registry link was located on other retailers’ websites. Here are five other popular wedding registry retailers, and a picture of how you can navigate to a wedding registry from their homepage once you have gone through a cash back portal.   Wedding Registry Retailers Amazon: First go to Amazon. You will have to sign in then go to “Your Account” before scrolling down to the bottom to “Personalization.”   Bed Bath & Beyond: Simply go to Bed Bath & Beyond. The link will be in the middle tab on the top. Bloomingdale’s: Simply go to Bloomingdale’s. The link will be in the top right labelled “The...
