Flight Review: ANA First Class Square from Chicago to Tokyo

After stopping over at Charlotte for my friend’s wedding, my wife and I continued on to Japan for a week-long vacation at Tokyo then Hiroshima and Miyajima. We flew ANA First Class Square going to Tokyo and flew United BusinessFirst coming back to New York City from Hiroshima. By using United Airline’s MileagePlus miles and booking a round-trip, we were able to get one free stopover and one free open jaw. The free stopover meant our flight down to Charlotte was free, and the free open jaw meant we could fly back home from Hiroshima even though we flew into Tokyo.   How You Can Do It We booked our award flights before United Airlines completely changed their award chart and increased mileage prices substantially especially for nicer Star Alliance airlines, such as ANA. While you can still book the same ANA First Class Square flight, the number of United miles needed is so high I wouldn’t recommend doing so. Instead, I recommend using United MileagePlus miles to book...

Hotel Review: Park Hyatt Washington Park Executive Suite

Recently, my wife and I decided to visit Washington D.C. for the opening weekend of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. We’re going to Japan in a few weeks and thought it would be great to get a sneak peek of the cherry blossoms here. While the trees haven’t bloomed yet due to the delayed Spring, we still had a great time in the city. Washington D.C. can be quite scenic and full of culture during this time of the year, and our stay at the Park Hyatt Washington Park Executive Suite was fantastic. During our Segway tour, we also met a British couple who were on their honeymoon so while it’s not your typical honeymoon destination, Washington D.C. can be a romantic place. If you do decide to visit Washington D.C., I highly recommend staying at the Park Hyatt Washington.     How You Can Do It The Park Hyatt Washington is a category 6 hotel on the Hyatt Gold Passport chart, so a standard room will cost 25,000...

Trip Report: Amtrak Northeast Regional and Mystic Connecticut

We recently took a weekend trip up to Mystic, Connecticut to visit my wife’s cousin and a few friends. And while Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard are known as the honeymoon hot spots in New England, don’t rule out a charming town like Mystic, Connecticut. Mystic has a romantic aura, offers lots of activities, and is especially beautiful in the fall, perfect for that autumn honeymoon. It’s also very easy to get to from New York City. If you’re wondering why Mystic sounds so familiar, it’s probably because you saw Mystic Pizza, starring Julia Roberts, when you were growing up!   How You Can Do It We took the Amtrak Northeast Regional from Penn Station to New London, and the cost for that trip can be as low as $39 one-way if you book early or easily over $100 if it’s a popular time and you don’t book early. Amtrak also has a frequent traveler program called Amtrak Guest Rewards, and any one-way coach ticket in the Northeast Zone...

Honeymoon Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Kauai Luau

Besides having awesome ocean view rooms and a seemingly endless selection of pools, the Grand Hyatt Kauai also boasts one of the best Hawaiian luaus in Kauai; many visitors who don’t stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai still come to the Grand Hyatt Kauai luau. A luau is a traditional Hawaiian party that includes music, dancing entertainment, and traditional Hawaiian food. While luaus may have a touristy feel to them, we thought it was worth going as we’ve never been to one before.   How You Can Do It The Grand Hyatt Kauai is a category 6 hotel on the Hyatt Gold Passport chart, so a standard room will cost 22,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points per night. If you don’t have Hyatt diamond status and want a better room that includes access to the Grand Club lounge for free breakfast and more, the cost will increase to 27,000 points per night. Last but not least, if you really want a suite, you can redeem 33,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points...

Honeymoon Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Kauai Part 2

While the Deluxe Ocean View Room we had at the Grand Hyatt Kauai was very nice, we didn’t spend a lot of time in the room. The Grand Hyatt Kauai is so big and offers so much to do, you won’t get bored exploring the hotel in a week’s time. Whether you spend your time relaxing¬†in one of the many pools or playing golf at the Poipu Bay Golf Club, you can’t go wrong. Last but not least, if you really want a suite, you can redeem 33,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points per night. Recently, however, Hyatt just announced a change...

Honeymoon Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Kauai Deluxe Ocean View Room

Last time, I reviewed flying Hawaiian Airlines First Class between New York and Hawaii and described how you can do it too for free! Today, I’ll cover our stay in a Deluxe Ocean View Room at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, generally regarded as one of the best hotels in the Hyatt chain. The review will actually be a multiple part series since the hotel is so large and offers so much that I can’t possibly cover it in one post. The more information you have, the better you are able to plan your special stay here. Guide to Opening Business Credit Cards for Rewards

Recently, I posted a guide to opening credit cards for rewards. By following the guidelines and opening up credit cards from my top credit card bonuses page, you can easily recoup a significant portion of your wedding cost and fund almost the entire cost of your honeymoon while flying first class and staying in a suite. Of course, you’ll have to be smart about opening and using the right credit cards, which includes meeting the minimum spend requirements without actually having to spend a lot of money. All that information is explained in the guide to opening credit cards for rewards.     When you browse the top credit card bonuses page, however, you may notice that some of the credit cards are labelled “business credit cards”. A lot of people think that means you need a business in order to be eligible for that credit card, but that could not be further from the truth. ANYONE can open business credit cards and while many of the guidelines to...
