Credit Card Retention Offer Updates

I just wanted to provide a friendly reminder that I’m constantly updating my credit card retention offers page so feel free to look for my latest findings as well as data points submitted by others.

Credit card retention offers

A lot of the credit cards that we opened in early 2013 to charge our wedding expenses on are approaching a year old. Of course, that means the annual fee will be due very soon since many great credit cards only waive the annual fee for the first year. But if you’ve read my guide to opening credit cards for rewards, you will remember from rule #3 that you should make sure to avoid the annual fee by remembering to cancel the credit card – no excuses. At the same time, you should also try to maximize credit card retention offers during the cancellation process to earn even more free airlines miles and points.

The Main Point

Some of the recent credit cards we called in to cancel include the Chase British Airways credit card, the Chase Hyatt credit card, and the Citi AAdvantage credit card. Two out of the three gave us a good retention offer that we accepted but as mentioned previously, you can always claim the retention offer then call back again next month to cancel the credit card to avoid the annual fee! Everyone’s experience will differ, and different people will get different retention offers so continue checking the credit card retention offers page for the latest results.
