Hotel Review: Hilton Garden Inn Mystic Groton
During our recent trip taking the Amtrak Northeast Regional up to Mystic, Connecticut, we also stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Mystic Groton. Hilton Garden Inns are generally considered mid-tier hotels good for both business and leisure use; the Hilton Garden Inn Mystic Groton seemed to fit that mold. It wasn’t fancy by any means, but it was clean and perfectly fine.
How You Can Do It
I booked one night using 30,000 Hilton HHonors points, and you can use Hilton HHonors points to book a stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Mystic Groton as well. The easiest way, however, is to just open the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve credit card. The card gives you 2 free weekend nights after spending $2,500 within 4 months and also gives you free Hilton HHonors gold status, which means you’ll get free breakfast.
For the night we were staying, the Hilton Garden Inn Mystic Groton was pricing at $289 a night before taxes. That’s pricey so it’s not a bad idea to use one of the free weekend nights from the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card even though the hotel is not a luxury hotel, such as the Conrad New York where we stayed in a luxury suite for free. If it was cheaper, I would just pay for the hotel with the Barclays Arrival credit card and redeem part of the 44,000 miles signup bonus to get the hotel stay for free.
Hilton Garden Inn Mystic Groton
The Main Point
Mystic, Connecticut certainly has a lot of hotel options, but we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Mystic Groton, because it was right by my wife’s cousin’s apartment. Other hotels in the town may be nicer or offer a better deal but for us, it was about convenience. Everyone’s situation will be different but regardless of what you are looking for in your honeymoon or other travels, you should still be able to do it for free or close to free by taking advantage of large credit card signup bonuses.
