$30 Off $100 at Blue Nile Via Amex Sync Blue Nile

From now until 10/15/13, you can get $30 off a $100+ purchase at Blue Nile via Amex Sync Blue Nile. Earlier this week, I introduced Amex Sync and wrote about one example where you can use the current Amex Sync Best Buy deal to score free money. As a result, I won’t elaborate too much about Amex Sync again, but I will mention this fact – you can combine Amex Sync with a cash back portal, such as Top Cash Back, to get even bigger savings!

For example, Top Cash Back currently gives you 10% cash back if you make a Blue Nile purchase of $499 or less. Let’s say you decided to buy a wedding ring that was $300. If you clicked through Top Cash Back AND used Amex Sync, you would get $30 from Top Cash Back (10% of $300) and a $30 statement credit from Amex Sync. $60 off a $300 purchase is a 20% saving!

If you are going to buy two rings, one for you and one for your spouse, you will want to split up that purchase into two transactions and use two American Express credit cards. The reason is you get a $30 statement credit for each American Express credit card you sync so by making two purchases and using two credit cards, you get $60 total. Besides, Top Cash Back gives you 10% cash back on purchases of $499 or less but only 5% cash back on purchases of $500 to $7,500 so if each ring is less than $500, you will benefit again by splitting up the purchase into two transactions.

You will of course need two American Express credit cards. Some great American Express cards to use include the American Express Starwood credit card and the American Express Starwood Business credit card. On each card, you will earn 35,000 Starwood points after spending $5,000 within 6 months (30,000 points signup bonus on top of the 5,000 points for spending). You can only sync one American Express credit card per Twitter account so for two American Express credit cards, create a second Twitter account.

[Update 9/16/13] While the summer promotion to get 35,000 Starwood points is over, you can still open the American Express Starwood credit card and the American Express Starwood Business credit card. On each card, you will receive 30,000 Starwood points after spending $5,000 within 6 months (25,000 points signup bonus on top of the 5,000 points for spending).

Step 6: Read my post about massive savings on wedding rings through Blue Nile then go to Top Cash Back or your favorite cash back portal to start your Blue Nile order. If you are new to cash back portals, read my introduction to cash back on everything.

Step 7: After you’ve completed your order, you should see the $30 statement credit for your American Express credit card about two days later.

Step 8 (optional): After you get your $30 statement credit, you can use the original link you used to sync your card to now UNsync your card. You can also go into your Twitter account and revoke access for the American Express Twitter app.

The Main Point

The closer your ring price is to $100, the bigger your cash back in percentage terms but even a $499 ring purchase will net you about $80 in cash back (~$50 from Top Cash Back and $30 from Amex Sync), which is almost a 16% saving. I still think the American Express Starwood credit card and American Express Starwood Business credit card are two of the best cards to use in the Amex Sync Blue Nile deal but there are many other American Express credit cards that offer big signup bonuses as well.  Just remember the current American Express Starwood signup promotion ends 9/3/13, and the Amex Sync Blue Nile deal ends 10/15/13.
