Wedding Transportation Cost: Bermuda Limousine #2

In the last post, I discussed the cost of a 24-passenger shuttle bus from Bermuda Limousine. In all likelihood, if you are moving from one location to another, such as from the wedding ceremony to the reception, you will need a bigger bus and maybe even multiple buses. Here is the cost breakdown for Bermuda Limousine’s bigger options:   Wedding Transportation: Bermuda Limousine Date Price Quoted: May 2013 Wedding Date Quoted For: July 2013 (Saturday evening) Price Assumptions: One vehicle, one way Capacity: 40-passenger coach Transportation Fee: $629.97 Tax: 0% Gratuity: 0% Total Wedding Transportation Cost: $629.97   Wedding Transportation: Bermuda Limousine Date Price Quoted: May 2013 Wedding Date Quoted For: July 2013 (Saturday evening) Price Assumptions: One vehicle, one way Capacity: 56-passenger coach Transportation Fee: $645.15 Tax: 0% Gratuity: 0% Total Wedding Transportation Cost: $645.15   The Main Point At the above prices of $629.97 for a 40-passenger bus and $645.15 for a 56-passenger bus, it comes out to $15.75 and $11.52 a person respectively. Those prices are...

Wedding Transportation Cost: Bermuda Limousine

While my fiancée and I were not that interested in getting a limo for our wedding transportation needs, we did need to find passenger buses to shuttle some of our guests from one part of New York City to another. Given the plethora of transportation services available in NYC, you would think that plenty of choices exist for passenger buses, but it’s actually quite hard to locate a company that provides coach services without requiring a minimum number of hours or distance traveled. Luckily, I was able to get in touch with Bermuda Limousine, which got good reviews on the Internet.   Wedding Transportation: Bermuda Limousine Date Price Quoted: May 2013 Wedding Date Quoted For: July 2013 (Saturday evening) Price Assumptions: One vehicle, one way Capacity: 24-passenger coach Transportation Fee: $493.35 Tax: 0% Gratuity: 0% Total Wedding Transportation Cost: $493.35   The Main Point Unfortunately, the price is way too high to be feasible even if it does include tax and gratuity already. With a capacity of only 24...

Wedding Planning and Airline Miles

I’ve been an airline miles and points junkie for a long time now ever since college when I opened up a Chase credit card that gave me unlimited 5% cash back on a variety of categories! Those were the good old days and as you can see from my previous post, 2% cash back isn’t even a guarantee these days. Similar to a gateway drug, that Chase credit card was my gateway card and before I knew it, I was constantly trying to find the best credit card deals to quickly accumulate miles and points. Another credit card that I’ve had for eons is the Citi Forward credit card. [Update 11/1/13] Unfortunately, the Citi Forward no longer offers new cardholders 5 Thank You Points per $ spent on dining and bookstores, such as Amazon. I no longer recommend opening this credit card.     Even though I didn’t fly or travel that much in college, I would constantly read Flyertalk to learn not only about collecting miles but also...

Priceline Rewards Visa No Longer Offers 2% Cash Back

Previously, I mentioned that the Priceline Rewards Visa is the best 2% cash back credit card. Unfortunately, the credit card no longer offers 2% cash back. Now, the Priceline Rewards Visa only offers 1% cash back, which essentially makes the card useless and not worth opening. Previously, two offers existed for the Priceline Rewards Visa. Offer 1 gave you 5,000 bonus points and 2% cash back on everything. Offer 2 gave you 10,000 bonus points and 1% cash back on everything. Both offers are gone and replaced with the new offer for 5,000 bonus points and 1% cash back on everything!     The Main Point All good things must come to an end at some point. Plastic Jungle recently closing its website is a case in point. Fortunately, other options do exist, and the Fidelity American Express still offers 2% cash back and while it pales in comparison to the old Priceline Rewards Visa, it is certainly the better card now. You can also look into the Barclays Arrival...

Projector for Wedding Reception

Nowadays, it’s almost a given that couples will be showing engagement photos, baby photos, and/or a video during their wedding reception. It’s a really fun way to engage with the guests and share your memories. What some people don’t think about (myself included), however, is if they will have a projector for wedding reception use. Some venues provide a screen and projector to help couples present the slideshows or video, but some do not. If you have a venue that does not provide the projector, you can either rent or buy one. In either case, you will need to look at certain criteria including lumen, resolution, and value.   Lumen and Resolution In my research to find a projector for the wedding, I realized that lumen AKA brightness and resolution are probably the two most important specifications to analyze. Whether you have an indoor or outdoor wedding, if adjusting the lighting to show your media is not a viable option, you will want a projector with 3,000 lumens or...

Wedding Venue Cost: NYIT de Seversky Mansion #2

Since the cost to book the NYIT de Seversky Mansion can be quite high, a good option might be to look into Friday or Sunday weddings. I asked NYIT de Seversky Mansion specifically about Sunday weddings, and here is the information I received:     Wedding Venue: NYIT de Seversky Mansion Date Price Quoted: November 2012 Wedding Date Quoted For: Peak season Sunday evenings Price Assumptions: Includes ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception for 150 guests Room Name: Ballroom Capacity: ~150 Venue Fee: $2,500 Catering Per Person: $150 Tax: 8.875% Gratuity: 20% Total Wedding Venue Cost: $32,118   The Main Point Unlike the Palm House at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, NYIT de Seversky Mansion charges the same $2,500 venue fee even if you have a wedding during a less popular time, such as on a Friday or a Sunday. The catering charge per person is the only aspect that changes. For a Sunday evening wedding, the catering per person drops from $200 a person to $150 a person. The total...

Wedding Venue Cost: NYIT de Seversky Mansion

New York Institute of Technology’s Old Westbury campus houses the NYIT de Seversky Mansion, one of the top wedding venues in Long Island. Whether you’ve always thought a mansion would be a great venue for your wedding or you were inspired by the recent Great Gatsby movie to throw a Gatsby-esque party for your big day, you will want to check out the NYIT de Seversky Mansion.     Wedding Venue: NYIT de Seversky Mansion Date Price Quoted: November 2012 Wedding Date Quoted For: September 2013 (Saturday evening) Price Assumptions: Includes ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception for 150 guests Room Name: Ballroom Capacity: ~150 Venue Fee: $2,500 Catering Per Person: $200 Tax: 8.875% Gratuity: 20% Total Wedding Venue Cost: $41,917   The Main Point NYIT de Seversky Mansion’s price is certainly on the higher side of venues I have analyzed recently but if you compare the price to that of other so-called mansion venues in the area, the price is actually quite reasonable. The reviews are great, and the...

Get Free Shipping From ShopRunner

If you have converted to using cash back portals and doing as much as your shopping online, you will no doubt encounter one of the biggest problems with online shopping – shipping fees. Shipping fees can account for a large part of the online purchase unless you meet the minimum spending requirement to get free shipping or you are part of a retailer’s free shipping program, such as Amazon Prime. Unrestricted free shipping really helps consumers take advantage of the convenience and lower prices from shopping online. That is why Amazon slightly devalued their Amazon Prime program by introducing add-ons, and why consumers were not happy.   Free Shipping From ShopRunner I recently saw on Dan’s Deals that anyone can get free shipping from ShopRunner for one year with an American Express credit card. If you are not familiar with ShopRunner, it is similar to Amazon Prime, but the shipping services are for a variety of stores (Amazon not one of them of course). Like Amazon Prime, you get...

Current Macy’s and Blue Nile Specials

I wanted to highlight some current specials going on right now at Macy’s and Blue Nile, which may interest some of you. For Macy’s, Ebates is currently running a special where they offer 14% cash back at certain retailers. 14% cash back would be helpful if you are looking to buy a tuxedo or suit from Macy’s at great prices. Don’t forget to buy discounted gift cards as well at Cardpool or another discounted gift card site for additional savings. Macy’s gift cards at Cardpool are currently at a 7% discount.     Blue Nile is also running a special for 10% off many platinum jewelry, including many wedding bands. Specifically, I see 230 platinum jewelry items on sale at 10% off. You have to use coupon code PLATINUM at checkout. While you normally could receive either 5% or 10% cash back at Blue Nile by using Top Cash Back, coupon code PLATINUM will void the affiliate reward. I’ve mention before that Blue Nile does that sometimes depending on...

Wedding Hair and Makeup Cost: Sachiko Hair and Makeup #2

Sachiko Yanase of Sachiko Hair and Makeup also offers a smaller package in addition to the standard package, which I talked about yesterday. It’s meant for a party of three, but it’s another fantastic deal, perfect for those with smaller bridal parties and looking to save a bit of money.   Wedding Hair and Makeup Artist: Sachiko Hair and Makeup Date Price Quoted: January 2013 Wedding Date Quoted For: July 2013 (Saturday) Price Assumptions: Includes airbrush application for bride and 2 bridesmaids Assistant: Yes Airbrush Application: Yes Estimated Preparation Time: Not specified but up to 4 hours of service included Package Fee: $600 Trial Fee: $100 Engagement Shoot Fee: $100 (estimated) Travel Fee: ~$50 Tax: 0% Gratuity: 0% Total Wedding Hair and Makeup Cost: $850   The Main Point While Sachiko Yanase’s smaller package only covers the bride and two bridesmaids, you can add hair OR makeup for an additional person for $90. Her rates don’t specify if that means you can pay $180 to do hair AND makeup...
