Wedding Hair and Makeup Cost: Sissi Chan

If you search Wedding Wire for hair and makeup artists in the NYC area and sort by average reviews, Sissi Chan is the #1 result with a perfect 5 stars in 25 reviews. She doesn’t offer any group or package rates since she works alone without an assistant, but her prices are very straight forward. As a result, Sissi Chan might be the perfect fit for your wedding if you have a smaller bridal party.

The Main Point

The first thought that popped into my head when I looked at Sissi Chan’s prices was that it reminded me a lot of Nam Vo’s prices. Both charge roughly the same price for hair and makeup for a bride and four bridesmaids (Sissi Chan $1,350, Nam Vo $1,300), and both charge $175 each for the trial and engagement shoot. In addition, both include taxes in their prices and do not have a mandatory gratuity (although you should give them a gratuity in the end).

But keep in mind, however, that Nam Vo only does makeup while Sissi Chan does both hair and makeup. In addition, Nam Vo charges $500 for the bride and $200 for each bridesmaid while Sissi Chan charges $350 for the bride and $250 for each bridesmaid. As a result, Sissi Chan’s prices are a better value. Sissi Chan’s prices also explicity say that airbrush application is included.

While Sissi Chan does do both hair and makeup, it sounds like she has more experience doing makeup. Because she does not work with an assistant, many brides hire her to do just the makeup for the wedding while hiring a separate hair stylist. In fact, Sissi Chan mentioned that she splits wedding tasks with another stylist all the time, and she finds it much more efficient to do so. For makeup-only or hair-only prices, please see Sissi Chan’s website for her rates.
